Murfreesboro resident and community leader Gordon Ferguson has been named vice chair of the Tennessee Board of Edcation. He was appointed to the Board in 2016, and represents the fourth congressional district.
Ferguson is president and CEO of Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital and president of Saint Thomas Regional Hospitals. He has served as Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital president and chief executive officer since 2006 and as the president of Saint Thomas Regional Hospitals since 2015.
He was named Rutherford County's Business Person of the Year in 2010 at the Annual Business at its Best Gala.
He is very active with area non-profits, serving as treasurer of United Way and is their vice chair elect for next year. Gordon was chair of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce in 2011, and currently on the board of the Business Education Partnership. He is a member of noon Rotary in Murfreesboro, and a graduate of Leadership Rutherford.
By the next quarterly meeting in April 2018, Governor Haslam will appoint two new board members. State law requires that at a minimum, one member of the Board must be a current educator.
