Dan Whittle photo exhibit at Arts Center of Cannon County
May 25-June 30, 2012 Dan Whittle's photo art is on display at the Arts Center of Cannon County (1424 John Bragg Highway in neighboring Woodbury). Admission is free to the Marly Berger Gallery. This well known journalist-photographer-author has creative nature photos and captures life in action through the lens of his camera. Middle Half Marathon
Sat. (Oct. 13, 2012) 7AM 6th Annual Middle Half Marathon and Murph's Fun Run. The 13.1-mile course starts and stops at MTSU's Dean Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium and the course is around the beautiful flat and tree-lined Murfreesboro historic district. The Murfreesboro Half Marathon course has been certified as accurate in measurement according to the standards adopted by the USATF Road Running Technical Council. Nikki Giovanni: "Life in the Bottoms"
Tue (May 29, 2012) 5:30PM Renowned social activist and poet Nikki Giovanni will speak at New Vision Baptist Church (1750 N. Thompson Lane). "Life In The Bottoms" is the final part of MTSU's 2012 local history series. The evening begins with a barbecue dinner at 5:30PM. Then at 6:30PM oral history reports from the field school will be presented. Heavy Fire Damage Friday Night To Northwoods Home

A home in the Northwoods subdivision suffered heavy damage with a fire around 8:45 Friday night (12/9/2011). Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Public Information Officer Allen Swader told WGNS News that the first unit was at 2231 Tanglewood Trail in less than 3-minutes.

Assistant Chief Swader said, "A couple had logs blazing in their fireplace when creosote in the chimney apparently ignited the attic." He described the home as having "major strucdtural damage".

Units from the Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue ladder company number 6 on Memorial Boulevard, beside SportsCom responded; along with ladder 6 on Pitts Lane; Engine Company 4 on Jones Boulevard; and Rescue 8 from Pitts Lane.
