Around 5:30 Friday morning (12/19/2014) the tank on a tractor-trailer rig began leaking diesel fuel into city storm sewers.

When the driver of the 18-wheeler discovered that his fuel tank was punctured, he pulled over to the emergency lane on I-24 eastbound (toward Chattanooga) under the Medical Center Parkway bridge (exit 76).

Units from Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department's (MFRD) District 9, along with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol rushed to the scene to control the traffic.

MFRD Shift Commander Daryl Alexander told NewsRadio WGNS that the leak was quickly stopped.

City of Murfreesboro Environmental Engineer Sam Huddleston and Tennessee Department of Transportation supervised the clean-up.

No one was injured and as of this time, it has not been determined what caused the puncture in the big rig's diesel fuel tank.
