A total of eight residents in the area of Gresham Lane allegedly had a portion, if not all of their mail stolen out of their mailboxes on Monday. Authorities went to the street to investigate, but so far no arrests have been made. Because stealing mail is a federal offense, the person or persons behind the theft could face some very heavy charges if caught.

Under Title 18 of the U.S. Code, theft of mail can be punishable by up to five years in prison and a hefty fine. The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General is mandated to investigate mail fraud and theft.
