In the City of LaVergne property taxes are a strong subject. The city has taken delinquent tax payers to the world wide web where they post the names of those who have failed to pay their property taxes. This is the third year for the city to post names online.

In LaVergne, property taxes account for about $9-million of their $16-million budget. Over $250-thousand is currently owed to the city for property taxes. Of course, a huge percentage of that money is owed by one man. Developer of Lake Forest Subdivision, Amnon Shreibman, owes more than $100,000 for property taxes on 419 homes. He filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year.

Information from the City of LaVergne:

If you are among the 5 percent of people in La Vergne who have not yet paid property taxes, your name will be published on the delinquent taxpayers list on Friday, June 14.  People who still owe their 2012 property taxes will be listed on the city web page, along with the property address.

Tax bills were first mailed on October 1, 2012 and were due February 28, 2013. A second tax notice was sent to delinquent taxpayers on March 1.  At this time, unpaid property taxes for 2012 are nearly four months past due.

Past due tax bills are assessed penalty and interest of 6 percent of the base amount if paid during the month of June. That amount will increase 1.5 percent each month after June.

The delinquent tax list does not reflect properties currently in bankruptcy, in accordance with federal law.

Unpaid taxes from 2010 and previous years have been turned over to the Rutherford County Chancery Court in accordance with state law. Unpaid taxes for 2011 were turned over the first week of April.
