The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro issued the following statement in regards to the killing of our U.S. Ambassador to Libya:

The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro condemns in the strongest possible words both the killings of our nation’s ambassador to Libya, the three other U.S. diplomats in that nation and the attack on the American embassy in Egypt. Those who committed the killings should be brought to justice and that the plot by perpetrators to commit such a crime should be soon brought to light. Our condolences are to the families of our diplomats who died in the line of duty.

We also call on all Muslims around the world to ignore the irresponsible and deliberate anti-Islam films and clips that have been circulating on the web. We urge that these attempts to provoke the religious feelings of Muslims be ignored and that their extremist producers not be given the cheap publicity they so desperately seek. Those who created such films and clips do not represent the American people.

The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro and the Muslim community are committed to upholding the right to freedom of expression, guaranteed by the first amendment, and we unconditionally condemn any use of violence as a means to protest offensive or hateful speech. Our response to these latest intentional provocations is to increase our efforts in building bridges between cultures, promoting mutual understanding between faiths, and marginalizing extremists of all stripes.

May God protect the members of our great nation, The United States of America, on our home soil and abroad.
