The Tennessee Department of Health's Office of Vital Records is increasing fees charged for providing birth and death certificates. The new fees went into place on Wednesday (July 1, 2015), each type of certificate will cost $15 per copy for both first and additional copies.

Birth and death certificates may be obtained by visiting a county health department in Tennessee, in person at the TDH Office of Vital Records at 710 James Robertson Parkway in Nashville, online at http://tn.gov/health/article/vr-certificate or by mail. Additional fees apply when ordering the certificates online.

"Our county health departments and the TDH central office in Nashville welcome visitors seeking copies of the various certificates and records we maintain," said Lori Ferranti, PhD, TDH assistant commissioner of Policy, Planning and Assessment. "We recommend visiting the TDH website, tn.gov/health, to learn about each certificate and record and what is required to obtain these documents."

The Tennessee Office of Vital Records reviews, registers, amends, issues and maintains the original certificates of births, deaths, marriages and divorces that occur in Tennessee, in accordance with Tennessee state law. Certificates of births for newborn children may not be available to issue for approximately 45 days after the child's birth.
