A local school did something this past week that no school in our area has done before.

Last Thursday in Rutherford County, the principal and teachers of John Colemon Elementary School in Smyrna created care packages for every student in the school. After the packages were created, the staff and administration actually went door-to-door to hand-deliver the packages to every school student.

WGNS questioned if the staff was really going to every home address, so we asked Schools Spokesperson James Evans about the mission. Amazingly, he indeed confirmed the staff went to each of the student's home addresses.

We found out about the event last week, but were told not to mention it on the air as it would spoil the surprise for students and their parents.

The key saying at John Coleman Elementary in Smyrna is, "Choose to be the Difference." The staff certainly showed that with their kindness last Thursday.

In case you are curious, the Mission Statement at John Coleman is: To inspire academic growth by creating a challenging learning environment that encourages the unique abilities of each student.
