K9 Sniffs Out Drugs - Leads to Mandated Search and Eventually Arrests in Murfreesboro

A 2009 Chevy Malibu leaving an area at a high rate of speed of where a shooting had been reported was suspicious enough to lead police to make a traffic stop on Friday morning. That stop resulted in two arrests and the recovery of a stolen handgun.

Police performed a “felony stop” on 33-year old Mario Hardy and upon searching the vehicle, recovered a small amount of cocaine. At first, Hardy evidently refused to allow police to search his car. A K-9 was called to the scene and made a positive alert at the driver side door. An M-P-D officer then conducted a probable cause search, which is when the cocaine was located. A .40 caliber Hi-point handgun was recovered from the floorboard of the rear seat. The gun was reported as stolen in the county.

Passenger Javarius Malone was also arrested. The two will face theft and drug charges in General Sessions Court October 30th. Both Malone and Hardy refused ownership of the cocaine and the handgun.
