The City of La Vergne is hosting a seminar designed to educate the uninsured and underinsured population about the Affordable Care Act and to provide enrollment assistance. On Thursday, October 10 two sessions will be offered in the Board Room at City Hall,5093 Murfreesboro Rd.  The free sessions are scheduled at 12:00 noon and at 6:00 p.m.

“There are more than 70,000 residents of Rutherford County with no health insurance,” said Walter Beard, Jr., the seminar instructor. “There is also a lot of confusion about this healthcare law. Our goal is to help clarify what this means to individuals and to small businesses, to provide help for people who are enrolling, and to answer any questions people may have.”

Beard, an outreach and enrollment specialist with the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center, is trained to assist people in understanding the insurance marketplace.

The seminar will cover the dates for enrollment, the marketplace and carriers, the types of plans and coverage available, how the consumer is protected, and how and where to get help with enrolling.

“I believe it is important for our residents to hear firsthand what the Affordable Care Act can and cannot do, what it means for both your health and your pocketbook,” said Mayor Senna Mosley.
