La Vergne has been named the best place for young families to live in Rutherford County, Tennessee by NerdWallet, a consumer-advocacy website. The study was conducted to help young families with tighter finances find good homes that allow a good quality of life.
NerdWallet based its ranking on the following criteria: home affordability, prosperity and growth, quality of education, and family friendliness.
"La Vergne continues to shine as a good place to live," said Mayor Dennis Waldron. "This is a great city for young families because we offer a lot of community activities like baseball and softball, we have a good library with reading programs all year, and our schools are top-quality. I am lucky that La Vergne has been home to my family for 200 years."
La Vergne was ranked as the 17th best place in Tennessee. It joined eight other cities in Middle Tennessee to make the Top 20 list, including Mt. Juliet, Nolensville, and Spring Hill. Smyrna came in at 26 and Murfreesboro was rated at 36.
"La Vergne's strong performance was bolstered by its affordability and quality schools. Additionally, over a third of the city's households are home to a child under 18, making this one of the state's most family-friendly communities," said Sara Collins, media contact at NerdWallet. "La Vergne has also ranked among NerdWallet's top ten places in Tennessee for homeownership, thanks to its low monthly homeowner costs and healthy population growth."
