According to state law, Aggravated rape is the unlawful sexual penetration of a victim by the defendant where force or coercion is used, the defendant is armed with a weapon or leads the victim to believe he has a weapon; causes bodily injury to the victim; or is aided by one or more persons.

Aggravated rape is a Class A felony in Tennessee which carries with it a possible sentence of 15 to 60 years in prison. If Shaw is found guilty, he could be sentenced to 120 years behind bars.

In rape cases, WGNS does not release details to protect the identity of the victim.
