A Lebanon man faces charges of drag racing. Twenty-seven year old Brian Powers is accused of driving between 80 to 90 miles per hour on South Rutherford Boulevard, near Broad Street.

Murfreesboro Police Officer Walter Breithaupt was sitting stationary at Husky Lumber around 12:30 Thursday morning when he heard what sounded like vehicles accelerating.

That's when the officer stopped a yellow Mustang, driven by James Westmoreland. He was giving a citation for drag racing.

However, Officer Sean Leiser, who stopped Powers in his red Nissan 350Z, discovered he had a revoked license and was in violation of his probation. Powers was taken to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and bond was set at 21-thousand dollars.
