Imagine being a little kid and being honored by firemen for a good baseball game during awards night... Several Murfreesboro youngsters felt like hero's earlier this week when the fire department arrived at their event.

Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue's Ladder number 6 attended the 9th Annual Award ceremony for Optimist Little League Baseball Tuesday evening at Sports Com.

Three players from the coach-pitch teams were selected to receive the “Hustler” award. Each recipient of the award was given a baseball signed by the crew from Ladder 6, along with the league’s coaches and umpires.

Acting Captain Adam Petrig and Firefighters Leon Isaac and Ashley Welcome caught the ceremonial first pitches at home plate. Firefighter Robert Vaughter stayed near the fire engine to provide engine tours for the kids.

Randy Huffman, coordinator for the event stated, “I appreciate MFRD taking time to be a part of our award ceremony; the players do too.”
