Rutherford County football fans are mourning the passing of Carey "Karo" Thompson. The former MTSU football player and Riverdale coach passed away Wednesday at his home at the age of 79. Thompson was a Blue Raider until an injury shortened his career. He coached football at Mt. Juliet and Castle Heights before moving to Riverdale when the school opened in 1972. He served as a P.E. Teacher and was a football and swim coach for the Warriors. Karo Thompson is survived by his wife of 51-years Kaye and daughter Karen Thompson. The funeral will be Saturday at Roselawn Funeral Home at 2pm with burial to follow. Visitation with the family will be noon until the services at 2pm Saturday.
