Twelve Rutherford County high schoolers completed a "fast track" nursing assistant certification course during winter break.

The course was offered by NHC in Murfreesboro and involved students from Central Magnet School, Oakland High School and Smyrna High School in Rutherford County. The CNA certification course also included a student from Gordonsville High School and MTSU nursing students, said Jennifer Petty, director of nursing for NHC.

"It was a great fit for the both groups to be learning and growing together," Petty said. "This is such a positive light and great path for Rutherford County health science. To my knowledge, no one else does this and there is no reason they couldn't be. Kudos to Rutherford for setting the bar high and getting the information passed on to these students as high school students and not after they graduate."

The Rutherford students who completed the course are Rebecca Meece (11th, Central), Lauren Gattie (11th, Central), Jacklyn Robinson (11th, Central) Jordyn Banks (12th, Central), Emily Hamby (12th, Oakland), Mariel Jumawan (12th, Oakland), Myah Hasan (11th, Smyrna, Joseph Paschall (11th, Smyrna) Mackenzie Wrather (12th, Smyrna) Janya Sipaseuth (12th, Smyrna), Hannah Potter (12th Smyrna) and Joyce da Silva (12th, Smyrna).

Graduation for the students in the course was held on Jan. 7 at NHC.
