Local Pharmacists Discusses Flu Season

Local health officials are urging increased vigilance amid rising flu numbers. Dr. Jason Greene with Reeves-Sain Drugstore tells NewsRadio WGNS in many of the cases, the patients are infected with a strain not covered by this year's flu vaccine...

Dr. Greene says the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention get together each spring to formulate the next year's flu vaccine...

The C-D-C last week sent a new alert to doctors, advising prompt use of Tamiflu and other antivirals for hospitalized flu patients and those at higher risk for complications like pneumonia. Dr. Green says while flu season may be at it's peak right now, cases can be reported through the spring when the weather changes.
