Local resident Jimmy Evans resigned from the Rutherford County Election Commission in order to run for Mayor of Rutherford County, a seat currently held by Ernest Burgess. Evans qualified to seek the Republican nomination for the seat Thursday morning.

The Republican Primary is on May 6, 2014. The general election is Aug. 7
Evans ran once before in 2002 against former Mayor Nancy Allen. He lost by a small margin to Allen.
