Murfreesboro and Rotary lost a great leader Thursday morning. Past Murfreesboro Rotary President Ed Maupin passed around 5:00 o'clock Thursday morning (2/4/2016) at Adams Place.

Ed was a member of Murfreesboro's First Presbyterian Church, active with the Friends of Stones River Battlefield, Friends of the Greenway, as well as all phases of Rotary. He loved all sports, especially the Nashville Sounds, helping others and was a UT fanatic.

He is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, and even in his death, supports this RI by honoring family members.

He first joined the Rotary Club of West Knoxville in 1978 and was extremely active at the club level and in District 6780 prior to moving to Murfreesboro in 2007. He served as president of the West Knoxville club and has also served as president of the Murfreesboro Rotary Club from 2010-2011. In fact, he was the 2012 Rotarian of the Year for District 6760.

Ed thoroughly enjoyed his 38 years as a Rotarian, especially in 1985 when the worldwide organization took on the challenge of eradicating polio in the world.

Last year, Maupin commented, "There is something in Rotary for everyone, and I think we do an excellent job of meeting our mission to advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education and the alleviation of poverty."

He was so proud of Rotary on the local level and how it could be making improvements at home while having a major impact across the world-all at the same time.

Ed is from Shelbyville, and that is his final resting place. His dad was a strong Rotarian, and it's fitting that Ed followed those footsteps. It's also reasonable that a fellow Rotarian would be handling Ed's arrangements. Check with www.WoodfinChapel.com.
