LoJac Enterprises is requesting the Rutherford County Regional Planning Commission make a considerable change in zoning to allow for a 110 acre construction and demolition recycling center. The location of the proposed zoning change is on the Old Nashville Highway in Murfreesboro just past Asbury Road. The property is currently zoned medium density residential.

The property in question was used as a rock quarry up to 1980. It has been vacant for 33-years. The planning commission staff wrote in a memorandum, “This type of facility would be a benefit to the county because it will be able to recycle materials that would have otherwise ended up in the landfill.” The applicant estimated that 200,000 cubic yards of debris would be sorted through the facility each year.

The staff recommended the zoning change be passed. It will be before the planning commission on Monday, April 8 at 6PM in the County Courthouse.
