Courtney Orcutt volunteered as a team manager with Murfreesboro Soccer Club (MSC) for many years. Today, he's still a MSC parent supporter and soccer dad to 15-year-old Lizzy, a sophomore at Siegel High School and a member of MSC's Strikers traveling soccer team.

But this time, Orcutt offered his professional services to the club. He recently developed the new logo adopted by MSC, only the club's third logo since its formation in 1977, because he wanted to give something back to "such an important organization for my daughter's athletic and personal growth and development for the past seven years," according to Orcutt. Lizzy has played soccer with MSC since she was eight years old.

"As a part of our new strategic plan the Board of Directors developed about 18 months ago, we wanted a new look to help carry our message," said Leanna Wright, MSC President. "We're so excited to adopt Courtney's design because it means a lot, this gift from a longtime parent. We've had so many positive comments about the new logo from parents and people in the community."

Orcutt, a professional graphic artist and assistant manager of Tomahawktshirts.com, a screen printer and ad specialties business in Murfreesboro, said this: "I love investing into the club since it's local and the experience has been so great for Lizzy. I wanted to creates a design that sets us apart, still keeping with soccer tradition, but giving us a distinct look of our own," he said.

In designing the new logo, Orcutt worked to retain elements of the former logo but provide a new twist. "I wanted the logo to be fresh and new, and to have strong dimension. Plus, it's always important to keep in mind how a logo will be used, from the Website to being embroidered onto shirts and uniforms to social media and printing. In my line of work, we see logos all the time that aren't easily transferable from medium to medium, so that was important." Orcutt stayed with a "shield" logo, like many soccer clubs, but streamlined the look and defined the color palette.

Orcutt moved with his family from Indiana to Murfreesboro when he was in seventh grade, and graduated from Riverdale High School and Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Art. He played basketball at Riverdale. Today, he is married to Mary Orcutt, a third-greade teacher at Northfield Elementary School. The couple has two children: Lizzy and three-month-old Levi, nicknamed "Leo."

Orcutt is excited about the MSC's new strategic focus and growth plan. "MSC is focused on building a young person's athletic and soccer ability, but also the person's character and personal growth," he said. "The Club has the right idea. I'm excited that the Board, who by the way is one of the hardest-working group of people I've ever seen, is focused on expanding the club's footprint and growing. We have a solid foundation, with the strong family feeling the club creates, the affordability compared with other clubs, and the history and local focus. The coaches give so much and now we have an even more professional coaching focus with Ivan's involvement. We just need to keeping telling our story because it's a really good one."
