A 3-car crash occurred around noon on Wednesday at the entrance to the Stones River Greenway on Thompson Lane. A black GMC Yukon SUV, black Ford Mustang convertible, and a silver Ford SUV were involved in the accident.

One motorist noted that the traffic is always a challenge along the narrow two-lane Thompson Lane between Broad and Memorial, but this is especially true at the Thompson Lane Trailhead entrance. They quipped, "You're at risk every time you try to maneuver the congested area to cross the lanes of traffic."

The state is in the beginning stages of making plans to widen this entire stretch of roadway to five-lanes, but that is many years away, at best. The problem has been magnified with the building of subdivisions, the Tennessee Miller Colliseum, several large churches, the massive Erma Siegel Elementary, Middle and High Schools along the roadway and now a major apartment complex.

One noted, "Traffic in the area will get much worse, before improvements are made."

Initial plans call for two lanes of traffic in each direction, a center turn lane, and sidewalks and curbs.
