"Found in an upstairs bathroom was Kayleigh Dupont, 28 years of age, and Justin Bennett, 32 years of age. Ms. Dupont and Mr. Bennett were both deceased. An investigation began by crime scene personnel and detectives and they have concluded that Mr. Bennett entered the home by kicking in the front door and then confronted Ms. Dupont in the bathroom where he shot her. He then turned the weapon on himself."

Police say the murder / suicide stemmed from a domestic violence call that Smyrna Police answered on January 14th at the apartment.

At least one of three children who live in the apartment was home when the shootings occurred. That child was transferred to state custody. Chief Arnold stated...

"When officers entered the home they found a small child, approximately 2 to 3 years of age, that was walking around unharmed. The child was secured by an officer and then officers cleared the home."

Reports from some neighbors indicate that four adults and three children live at the address on Village Lake Drive off of Jefferson Pike.
