A man in Murfreesboro called the police and told them that someone who had tried to kill him earlier in the evening was back. The caller then hung up the phone.

On Wednesday night around 10:30, police were called to the East Sevier Street apartment complex where victim Joshua Williams told police that he was walking from his home to the store when Travis Johnson approached him in an attempt to sell him a handgun. Williams said that he and Johnson walked to a nearby apartment where Johnson went inside and then came back out with another man. The second subject said to Williams, "Let him know what it is cuz," according to the police report. At that point, Williams fled to his neighboring apartment and he reported that Johnson then started banging on his apartment door once he went inside.

Several hours later in the early morning hours of Thursday, police were called back to the apartment. Police arrived at the apartment Thursday morning where the call came from and quickly went to the rear of the building where they observed a female standing by who said that two men ran into her apartment. The men actually locked her out of her unit and were still inside. The apartment they were in was where a previous incident was reported on Wednesday night. Police used a patrol cars PA system to order any subjects inside the apartment to step out. The report stated, "The two subjects finally came out and were identified as Travis Johnson and Michael Mann."

Outside the apartment police located a black 9mm handgun under the leaves that were on the sidewalk leading to the unit. The gun matched that of the one that was described by Williams as belonging to Mr. Johnson.

Based on the evidence found at the apartment and the suspect being in one of the units, police arrested Johnson for "Aggravated Assault with a firearm" and "Unlawful Possession of a Weapon."
