It's better to give than to receive. A heartwarming story resulted after Friday morning's Action Line radio broadcast that dealt with homeless people in our community needing not only blankets, but tarps to put over tents and keep them dry.

A caring man who recently lost his wife appeared at the radio station with a large number of blankets along with many tarps.

He didn't want any recognition for the generous deed, but only said, "I'm doing this in memory of my wife."

This man and his family are the only ones who know, but they have likely saved the lives of some homeless persons who are trying to survive in 20 degree overnight temperatures.

The mood at the station suddenly became emotion filled, as words could never accurately describe the memories and love of his recently deceased wife that were now focused on helping less fortunate members in our community.

The WGNS Blanket Brigade is out giving blankets and tarps to homeless persons in campsites around Murfreesboro. However, none of this would be possible without the concern residents have shown with donations of new blankets.

This is the beginning of what is forecast to be a bitterly cold season. Thanks to Wilson Bank & Trust, it just got much easier to drop off new blankets. You can now do this at any Wilson Bank & Trust branch in Rutherford County. Obviously, you can still do that at WGNS NewsRadio.

In addition, warm socks for the homeless are being collected for the entire month of November at Sunshine Nutrition Center at 621 South Church Street.

Over the next few days, please pick-up some new blankets and bring them by WGNS or any Wilson Bank & Trust location. You are also encouraged to get a package of thick, warm socks and take them by Sunshine Nutrition Center. Think how much it would mean to you, if fate to you or a loved on on the receiving end one day.
