A 21-year old in Murfreesboro looking for a roommate placed an ad on CraigsList and found out the hard way that not everyone is on the up and up. The man told the authorities that a woman by the name of “Kate David” contacted him via email and said that she was making the move from Switzerland to Murfreesboro to attend MTSU. The female sent the man a check for nearly $3,000 and asked that he deposit $100 and Western Union the remainder to her travel agent in Texas. He did.

The victim found out later that the check he deposited was a FAKE. He is now out $2,998. He will have to pay the bank back for the money the he withdrew and sent to Texas. Police have little information to go by in figuring out the true identity of the woman who claims to be a Switzerland resident. Needless to say, no arrests have been made.
