A man on a bicycle told police he was cut off by a red in color car while riding his bike on a sidewalk in Murfreesboro. The man said the car crossed into his path in front of the Wendy’s restaurant on South Church Street causing him to come into contact with the car’s front bumper. The man said he had to put his foot to the ground to catch himself from falling and in doing so rolled his ankle. The driver of the car fled the scene when he tried to approach her.

The bicyclist was transported to Middle Tennessee Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The driver was not caught.

Now the question you may be asking yourself, “Isn’t it illegal to ride a bike on a sidewalk in Murfreesboro?” In most cases yes, but in this case the answer would likely be “NO.” Here is why… There is no bike lane on South Church Street near Wendy’s restaurant and according to the rules suggested in the revised Murfreesboro Greenways, Blueways & Bikeways Master Plan, “Cyclists should not be re-routed onto sidewalks unless no other options exist,” in this case it would appear that no other option existed.
