Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department stands to benefit greatly from City Council's December 3rd approval of the 2015-2019 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).

MFRD's 2015 CIP Budget Projects include $1.4 million for a 100' aerial apparatus and $2.5 million for a Public Safety Training Facility.

According to Fire Rescue Chief Mark Foulks, the purchase of a 100' aerial will assist MFRD with meeting Insurance Services Office (ISO) requirements and increase operational capabilities in both the downtown and Gateway areas. Currently, MFRD does not have an aerial apparatus over 75'.

The $2.5 million budgeted for the Public Safety Training Facility rounds off the total funding for the project. "The property acquisition is under way," said Chief Foulks, "and the project should begin moving forward after the first of the year."

The training facility will also give MFRD an advantage with (ISO) training requirements. Additionally, this will enhance MFRD's fire suppression, emergency medical, technical rescue, and hazardous materials services.

"This dual purpose facility will increase interoperability with our public safety partners including Murfreesboro Police Department," commented Foulks.

These projects will enable the Fire & Rescue Department to support the City Council's continued efforts to create safe and livable neighborhoods and provide the citizens of Murfreesboro with excellent services.
