Middle Tennessee Christian School football player sadly dies on Friday - Son of Teb and Kari Batey

Middle Tennessee Christian School will be closed on Tuesday when MTCS football player Paul Thomas Batey is laid to rest. Dr. Phil Ellenburg at the school stated in an email to parents...

"Because most of our faculty and staff, and many of our students, will want to be present at the funeral, there will be no school preK - 12th on Tuesday."

The funeral service will be on Tuesday at 11:00 in the morning at North Boulevard Church of Christ.

Obituary: Paul Thomas Batey, age 15 of Milton, died Friday, November 28, 2014.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday at North Boulevard Church of Christ. David Young, David Dunn and Owen Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in Milton Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 until 8:00pm at North Boulevard Church of Christ.

He is survived by his parents Teb and Kari Mathis Batey; a brother, Houston Batey and two sisters, Kate Batey and Taylor Beth Batey all of Milton; grandparents, Tom and Anne Francis Batey of Murfreesboro and Dr. Kathy Mathis of MTSU from Lascassas; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Dr. William H. "Bill" Mathis Jr.

He was a member of the Milton Church of Christ and in June of this year he and his brother Houston were baptized by their father in the Jordan River on a trip to Israel. He was a member of the freshman class at Middle Tennessee Christian School where he was a member of the BETA Club, the high school Chorus, the high school trap and football teams. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

Active pallbearers will be uncles and cousins Rob, David, and Nathan Mathis, Mike McCubbin, Carl and Sam Mathis. Honorary pallbearers will be the Middle Tennessee Christian School football team and his freshman class.

Memorials may be made to the Middle Tennessee Christian School music building in memory of Paul.
