Middle Tennessee Electric’s Customers Care has donated $10,000 of its Operation Round Up funds to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Rutherford County.

“We sincerely appreciate this donation,” Interim Chief Professional Officer Derek Blake said. “Our community and supporters have been inspiring and amazing investors in our clubs and our youth.”

Boys & Girls Clubs of Rutherford County is a nonprofit organization committed to helping kids stay in school, be good citizens and live healthy lifestyles.

Since 2003, more than $6 million of Operation Round Up funds have been distributed into MTEMC’s communities.

Incoming contributions are tracked by county so the Customers Care Board can do its best to ensure money contributed by members in a certain county goes to that county. Any balances are carried over each month.

Note: MTE Customers Care funds may not be used for political or expressly religious purposes, schools or school-related organizations.

"Between the Sun and the Soil" at Center for the Arts' gallery through June 30th

Be a Part of the Taste of Stones River Aug. 24th
Calling all restaurants: applications are now being accepted to participate in the popular Taste of Stones River. On Saturday, August 24th, The Avenue - Murfreesboro will host the seventh annual Taste of Stones River in support of the Primary Care and Hope Clinic. The free culinary festival will feature signature menu items from the area’s finest restaurants, live entertainment from local bands and a variety of children’s activities in the Kids Fun Zone. BULLETIN: New Hours at Social Security Office
The Murfreesboro Social Security Office has reduced public office hours 30-minutes each weekday. It is now open Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 3:00PM. PLUS: the office now closes at NOON every Wednesday. Social Security employees will continue to work their regular shifts, but this change allows time for face-to-face consultations as well as processing more claims. MOVIES UNDER THE STARS

(June 3-July 27, 2013) 8:30PM 66th Year of MOVIES UNDER THE STARS presented as a free service of the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department. This event was created in 1947 by the parks and rec's first employee, Hollis Harris. Shows are Monday night: Cason Lane Trailhead; Tuesday at Cannonsburgh; Thursday at Richard Siegel Soccer Park; Friday at Mitchell-Neilson Primary School; and Saturday at Hobgood Elementary School. The concession trailer has snow cones, softdrinks and popcorn for sale. The movie is FREE and is suitable for all ages.

MTSU Fundraiser for Indoor Tennis Arena

MTSU will host a special event for their future Murfreesboro and MTSU Indoor Tennis Center on Monday evening, June 17th. The event will feature cocktails and live music with singer, songwriter Time James & Friends.

Alan Farley with MTSU tells us the event will be in the Jeff Hendrix Stadium Club at the MTSU Floyd Stadium on the 17th at 5:30 in the evening. Tickets are $75 per couple if purchased before June 12th and $100 per couple after the 12th. You can reserve your tickets by calling the Blue Raider Athletic Association at 898-2210.

Oaklands' Historic House Museum: Whispers of the Past
(July 12-Aug. 11, 2013) Hours: M-Sat 10AM-4PM, Sun 1-4PM Oaklands' Historic House Museum (900 N. Maney Ave.) presents "Whispers of the Past: A Museum's Secrets Explored". Admission is only $5. Oaklands staff is brimming with excitement over the donation of a magnificent dress and pair of ladies drawers belonging to Mrs. Mattie Ready Morgan Williamson. The brown silk brocade dress is entirely hand sewn and has been in family storage for over a hundred years. Mattie Ready was the daughter of Congressman Charles and Mrs. Martha Ready. She married General John Hunt Morgan in December of 1862, in a lavish ceremony at the Ready mansion, which was located on the public square in Murfreesboro. General Morgan was shot and died in a raid by Union soldiers in 1864. Mattie married Judge William Henry Williamson of Lebanon, a few years later. Saddle Up for Project Help July 25, 2013 - Thursday

One of Rutherford County’s favorite summer events is ready to ride; “Saddle Up for Project Help” is slated for Thursday, July 25th at 6:30 p.m., at MTSU’s Foundation Reception House, located at 324 West Thompson Lane in Murfreesboro. Proceeds from the event will benefit Project Help, a center-based early intervention program located on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University. For only $50 per ticket, guests can show off their favorite jeans, boots and cowboy hats while they enjoy a Western-themed evening filled with barbecue and live music.
