A milestone was celebrated in the Milton community on Sunday (4/3/2016). The congregation at Hopewell Presbyterian Church celebrated its 200th anniversary. In fact, the bi-centennial service and luncheon saw a 500 per cent increase in attendance when compared to other Sundays.

Reverend Joseph Cejka (pronounced che-kuh) was asked if during the two centuries of worship at Hopewell, did any minister stand out?

Cejka explained that the congregation first met only 4-years after the American Revolution. On April 1, 1816, Hopewell first gathered in a log home that was constructed for worship. That structure later collapsed and another location in the area was used. As the congregation grew, by 1937 the current facility was constructed. All three of the locations were within a mile or so of each other.

Complete conversation with Rev. Cejka.
