American National Insurance Construction aka ANIC- BBB Rating: F
615.781.4242 – 301 S. Perimeter Park Dr., Nashville, TN – www.anic-online.com
Middle Tennessee is known to be susceptible to Mother Nature’s path of destruction, and many homeowners’ roofs have experienced the brunt of these storms. Shel St. Clair, using the alias Michelle Bennett as owner of ANIC, knows the opportunity this presents. Ms. St. Clair has been chasing storms all over the country leaving a path of destruction of her own. Consumers in Tennessee, Illinois, Louisiana, and Texas have shared their nightmare about Ms. St. Clair’s companies stating they’ve paid her several thousands of dollars for repairs only to be left with an unrepaired roof. The Attorney General for the State of Illinois filed suit against St. Clair for deceptive business practices; however, she fled the state before they could collect the damages due.
Stars and Stripes Professional Home Services – BBB Rating: F
615.646.3800 & various other #’s on file with BBB - 1801 Wesley Court, Columbia, TN – www.starsandstripescleaning.com
Stars and Stripes Professional Home Services claims to have “Top Quality Service at the Best Price” when it comes to carpet and air duct cleaning services, but past customers have told BBB otherwise. BBB’s file indicates a serious pattern of complaint alleging inferior workmanship, stains remain in carpets after cleaning, failure to complete jobs as promised, extremely poor customer service, and the use of bait and switch tactics. In 2006, Jermie England, owner of Stars and Stripes, was found guilty on charges of scheming to defraud an elderly consumer. He was ordered to pay civil restitution in the amount of $133,650 and served time in jail for the offense. Buyer beware! Seems Mr. England’s top quality service is cleaning out consumer wallets.
DJ’s Pool Service – BBB Rating: F
615.587.7006 & various other #’s on file with BBB –
1005 Hickory Hill Lane, Apt 203, Bldg E, Hermitage, TN
Donnie Jones, owner of DJ’s Pool Service, has been elusive with many of his customers AND the BBB. 13 complaints allege consumers paid Mr. Jones up front for pool repairs; however, he stole the money and never returned to complete the promised work. Guess Mr. Jones got the last splash this time.
The Vacation Station - BBB Rating: F
615.445.7595, 866.951.8030 & 866.62.8747 – 624 Grassmere Park Dr., Ste 9, Nashville, TN – www.thevacationstationmembers.com
“OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS ENCLOSED, FINAL NOTICE, Notice Urgency: EXTREME, PERSONAL AND CONFIDENTIAL” are the words this company uses to grab consumer’s attention. This company sends mailers claiming recipients have been awarded “2 round trip airline tickets to anywhere in the continental US from any major international airport.” The mailer also appears to be from a major airline, but a closer look will show the trickery in this scheme. Consumers who inquire about the awarded airline tickets are informed they must attend a presentation to redeem the offer. Complaints on file with BBB allege upon attending the presentation, consumers are pressured into buying vacation travel club memberships, and there are many fees associated with redeeming the “awarded” airline tickets. So much for relaxation at The Vacation Station.
Tennessee Pride Builders – BBB Rating: F
931.239.8082 – 266 Christian Community Rd, Cookeville, TN
This company advertises on sites such as localsalesnetwork.com offering barn and garage building services. After providing a down payment ranging from $2500 - $3300, consumers are told work will commence; however, BBB complaint files indicate over $17,000 worth of contracted work remains incomplete. BBB contacted John Nichols, owner of Tennessee Pride Builders, in an effort to resolve these matters, but Mr. Nichols’ only response was, “...my company is in severe financial trouble having to fire 2 crews for shoddy workmanship and undependability…..My only option now is to file for chapter 7 Bankruptcy." BBB has been unable to locate any bankruptcy filing documents to verify his reply, and Mr. Nichols’ customers have been left without a new building or a refund.
Lloyd James Holdings, LLC – BooksChristian.com– BBB Rating: F
615.236.7000 – PO Box 70, Franklin, TN www.bookschristian.com
“We share your Faith” is the slogan Lloyd James Holdings, LLC aka BooksChristian.com touts when attracting new customers. They offer a plethora of faith-based books on their website including bibles, music, DVDs, and gifts. The only problem is the company does not deliver merchandise as promised. Over 120 complaints on file with BBB allege extremely slow delivery and items out of stock for indefinite periods of time. Some complaints state when orders are received, incorrect merchandise was shipped or orders arrived damaged, and most customers complain about the difficulty reaching company management to resolve disputes. BBB met with the company as a means to eliminate the volume and pattern of customer complaint, however, our efforts produced futile results. After determining this company was not concerned with taking care of its customers, BBB revoked this company’s BBB Accreditation status. Our philosophy: “Do Unto Others as You Would Have Others Do Unto You.”
Bludaman Entertainment – BBB Rating: F
No Phone #’s on File - PO Box 682407, Franklin, TN
Bludaman Entertainment provides magazine subscriptions, catalogs, and photo services for prison inmates…. or maybe not. BBB files contain numerous complaints alleging the company fails to deliver ordered merchandise as promised, and many customers are left singing the prison blues.
