Mississippi Man Arrested in Murfreesboro for Rape

We have an update on an incident that unfolded in the U-Haul parking lot on Memorial Boulevard in Murfreesboro:

A 22 year old man has been arrested and charged with "Aggravated Rape" in Murfreesboro. Suspect Darius Rushing of Clarksdale, Mississippi was taken into custody by local authorities on July 28, 2016 at 1 in the afternoon after the victim reported being raped and beaten. Police spoke to the victim at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. Note: While the arrest took place at 1 in the afternoon, the crime took place at around 6 in the morning.

The victim told authorities that the man pulled up next to her as she was walking and asked her if she needed a ride. The victim got into the car and the man took her to the Mapco gas station on Memorial Boulevard. After they stopped at the convenient store, he pulled into the U-Haul across the street from the gas station. Once in the U-Haul parking lot, he allegedly beat and raped the woman. The victim fought back, but suspect Rushing is accused of severely beating her.

From U-Haul, the victim eventually got-away and ran to her home where a family member transported her to the hospital. Medical staff told police the female had a broken orbital bone, broken nose, cuts and contusions to her head. Her eyes were blacked and swollen shut and there were finger marks around her neck.

Police tracked the suspect down to an apartment unit at The Point at Raiders Campus in Murfreesboro. Rushing was arrested and charged accordingly. However, more charges are pending.

The Mississippi man remains jailed at this time.
