Long-time Murfreesboro resident and local physician Dr. Bryan Terry announced that he will be a candidate for the Tennessee State House of Representatives, District 48, when the seat opens in 2014.
The district covers most of eastern Rutherford County. It is opening due to current Rep. Joe Carr’s decision to run for U.S. Senate. Dr. Terry will be running against Adam Coggin who is also running as a Republican.
Dr. Terry, a Republican, stated, “As your state Representative, I’ll support the conservative principles that have made our country great like limited government, fiscal responsibility, individual liberty and personal responsibility. As a physician, our first principle is “Do No Harm.” We identify the threats to and concerns of patients. Representatives should do the same for citizens as opposed to being beholden to special interest groups, lobbyists and the ruling elite.".
Dr. Terry’s medical group, Murfreesboro Anesthesia Group, PA, employs over 40 people. He serves as the group’s HIPAA Officer, Medicare Compliance Officer and serves on the Physician's Excellence Committee for St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.
Additional Information from the Terry Campaign:
In the community, Dr. Terry has been a guest speaker at MTSU, routinely mentors MTSU and Rutherford County students in his practice and instructs nurses from the Middle Tennessee School of Anesthesia. He’s coached youth baseball and soccer and helps provide free sports physicals to local athletes.
Murfreesboro native and local oral surgeon Dr. Mark Hardison, who will serve as Dr. Terry’s campaign co-chairman, said: “I've known Bryan for a long time. He is a great guy, and I am proud to support him. He treats everyone equally – from the hospital CEO to the nurses to the cleaning crew. Everyone knows they can talk to Bryan."
Local businessman Paul White had this to say: "When his family's farm was destroyed in the recent Moore, Oklahoma tornadoes, Bryan’s response spoke volumes to me. His mom lost everything on the farm including barns, all of her horses and her pot bellied pig. Bryan immediately got in his car and drove straight to Oklahoma to be with his family that lives there. We talked on the phone while he was driving. To my knowledge, they haven't gotten any clean up help from FEMA or any government agencies. Bryan has dealt with the clean up both there and here. Not only dealing with natural disasters, Bryan has some unique experiences that will serve us well as a representative.”
Dr. Paul LeDoux, Terry’s friend and medical partner, said: “Over the years, thousands of Rutherford County residents have literally trusted Bryan with their lives in the operating room. I know we can trust him now with our vote. Bryan will bring principles, a process and passion to the Capitol. He often sees things others don’t. His process for dealing with issues has significantly helped our group and hospital. I’m convinced his process will help Tennessee, too.”
As a Native American and an enrolled member of the Choctaw Nation, Dr. Terry has also drawn interest from leaders in the Republican Party nationally who are seeking to broaden the party’s appeal beyond its traditional base. For example, Sher Valenzuela, a prime time speaker at last year’s Republican National Convention and a national leader in the party’s efforts to recruit non-traditional candidates, praised Dr. Terry. “Bryan is exactly the type of accomplished, articulate and passionate leader we need in government today all across the country,” Valenzuela said.
“I know voters are frustrated with the system and feel like they don’t have a voice. I encourage everyone to join me and get involved in the process. We can make a difference. I will be happy to talk to anyone.” If you would like to talk to Dr. Terry or help on his campaign, he can be reached at TerryFor48@gmail.com or at (615) 801-2999.
