A Murfreesboro woman was arrested after leaving her baby unattended in a vehicle. Police received the call from the area of the Shoe Carnival in the Stones River Mall on Wednesday afternoon.

When officers arrived they met with the complainant who was with the child. The man who called the police told officers that he parked next to the vehicle and noticed the baby inside the car and waited about 20 minutes without seeing an adult. The man said he was worried because it was hot outside and the car was not running. So, he opened the unlocked back door of the car to make sure the baby was okay. He then called the authorities.

After several minutes passed, the mother returned to the car while police were standing by. She stated that she was inside the Shoe Carnival shopping. Sarah Burks told police that she was only in the store for 20 minutes. However, store video showed that Burks was shopping for almost a full hour.

25 Year old Burks was arrested and charged with leaving a child under 7 unattended in a motor vehicle. She will be in court on July 26, 2016.

The mother called her father to pick up the baby after the child was checked by Emergency Responders.
