On Monday WGNS told you about a prescription drug take back program in Murfreesboro. We now have more details on the event and we have confirmed that the Murfreesboro Police Department will be on site at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital collecting guns, in addition to drugs – this Saturday.

The Murfreesboro Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Community Anti-Drug Coalition of Rutherford County (CADCOR), and St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital are all working together to make the event happen on Saturday.

The M-P-D will actually be paying residents for their guns during what is called a “Gun Buy Back” program. The program targets unwanted firearms, working or non-working in the household. The police department told WGNS the program keeps firearms out of children’s hands and out of the hands of gang members and drug dealers. The program is completely anonymous and no names will be required!

In exchange for a gun, the P-D will be giving a gift card from Kroger that can be used to purchase either food or gas.

Location Information and MORE:

Both events will be held this Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon in the parking lot of St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in front of the DePaul Medical Office Building located at 1800 Medical Center Parkway in Murfreesboro.

Citizens are encouraged to come to the drive-up location and remain in their vehicles to drop off their medications. We are requesting that all expired or unused drugs be left in their original labeled prescription bottles or packages so they may be properly identified. Please do not bring any drug in an unlabeled container. No personal identifying information will be recorded or kept. All containers will be destroyed along with the drugs.

Any non-prescription drugs will also be accepted provided they are in their original containers.
