Murfreesboro City Schools will join districts across the nation in celebrating American Education Week November 16-20. The week was created to raise public awareness about the importance of education and literacy. This year's theme - "Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility" highlights the importance of public schools in our communities.

"Public schools are the foundation of our country's prosperity and strength," said NEA President Dennis Van Roekel. "We must honor those who are committed and dedicated to giving our nation's children a basic right to a great public education."

Essence Brisco, Communications Assistant, told WGNS in a press release, "As we participate in the 94th annual celebration, Murfreesboro City Schools thanks all educational colleagues from administrators to volunteers who play a part in providing students with a quality, safe and nurturing environment to receive their education."

"There are wonderful teaching models occurring throughout the district that would not be possible without the support of staff members, parents, teachers, administrators and volunteers," remarked Lisa Trail, Murfreesboro City Schools Communications Director. "From hands on learning in the classroom, to robotics, gardening and athletics, MCS staff goes above and beyond to allow children to develop emotionally, intellectually, socially and physically."

Murfreesboro City Schools is a district of twelve schools committed to the academic and personal success of each child. For additional information please visit www.cityschools.net.
