Bike riders will have a chance to practice their bike safety skills while having fun during the Murfreesboro City Schools Bike Rodeo on Saturday, April 30 at Scales Elementary. Check-in for the free event starts at 9:00 am.

"The Coordinated School Health Department received a grant to fund our Bike for Life Program. We now have 50 bikes and helmets for students to use throughout our system and for events like our bike rodeo," says Meri-Leigh Smith, Coordinated School Health Supervisor.

Rutherford County EMS, Rutherford County Health Department and Murfreesboro Police Department will be there aiding bikers as they ride through activity stations. Participants can expect to learn rules of the road, bike safety guidelines and how to perform bike safety checks. Once participants have cycled through all the stations they can enter a raffle to win one of two new bicycles.

"Our hope is that after students practice bike safety they can join us in riding bikes to school on National Bike to School day on May 4," stated Smith.

The rodeo is open to all city and county students who want to develop or practice bike safety skills. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes and safety equipment so it can be inspected for safety. For those students who don't have bikes and want to learn there will be equipment available for use.
