Final votes were passed for individual components of the city’s budget at council’s June 20th meeting.  Budgets for the upcoming year were approved for the Water & Sewer Department, Stormwater Utility Management Fund, Evergreen Cemetery, Murfreesboro City Schools, as well as the tax rate and appropriations ordinance.  Councilwoman Scales-Harris, as she did two weeks ago, still found proposed pay increases for select city employees to be a sticking point, and proposed a motion to exclude those pay increases; that motion was voted down.  Additionally, a vote regarding parking violation penalties for the downtown area was deferred, after council members received various requests from local business owners asking for more time to evaluate the proposals, and school board members received a pay increase, from $200 a month, to $200 for the first meeting of the month, and $100 at the second.
