Murfreesboro Firefighters Climbed 110 Stories in Remembrance of 9/11

Nine Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department personnel participated in the 3rd Annual Nashville 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Sunday.

Drivers Josh Oliver and Chase Martin and Firefighters Jonathan Parsons, Josh Parsons, Jonathan Gaither, Sean Wheeler, Andy Smithson, Kevin Leonard, and Israel Marcella represented MFRD at the event located at the William R. Snodgrass Tennessee Tower in Downtown Nashville.

The purpose of the event was to represent FDNY Firefighters that had to climb 110 story buildings on September 11, 2001 in order to rescue and evacuate people and to reach the “fire floors.”

The 343 Firefighters participating in the event had to wear full turnout gear while climbing 110 stories of stairs. Each participant was given a badge to wear with a name and photograph of one of the FDNY Firefighters killed on September 11.

Other MFRD personnel participating in the event but not representing the department were: Driver Adam Petrig and Firefighters Matt Welcome, Britt Gammon, and Chad Davis.
