The Murfreesboro Police Department, in cooperation with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) and local law enforcement agencies, will participate in the summer 2016 "Click It or Ticket" campaign.

A special emphasis in traffic enforcement will be placed on seatbelt and child restraint compliance. The special enforcement will run through June 5th. Officers will be watching closely for seatbelt usage as well as all traffic violations such as speeding, red light violations, following too close, and driving under the influence.

Police Chief Karl Durr says consistent research has proven that fewer people are buckling up at night, when the risk of being in a serious injury or fatal crash is greatest. He says that's why Murfreesboro Police will be out in force at night as well as during the day to make sure that drivers and passengers take seat belts seriously. Durr adds that regular seat belt use is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes.
