The Murfreesboro Police Department recently hosted an International Police Mountain Bike Association Police Cyclist Course to train police officers on the use of a bicycle for patrol purposes. This training included officers from several mid-state law enforcement agencies including LaVergne, Hendersonville, Spring Hill, Tennessee Tech. and Metro Nashville. The class was held at various Murfreesboro locations including World Outreach Church.
The officers were taught skills designed to increase their ability to safely patrol areas utilizing a bicycle. Topics include riding in traffic, low speed drills, balance techniques, emergency braking, cross-over drills and other bicycle safety topics.
Last year, the MPD Training Section conducted over 29,834 hours of on-site training and each police officer averaged 112 hours of career training and professional development.
