Do you know a local high school student who verbally expresses themselves well, would be interested in possibly winning cash and competing for a scholarship? The Murfreesboro Rotary Club invites area students to give a four to six minute talk using Rotary’s “4-Way Test” and specifically applying it to a topic of their choice.

Rotarian  Derek Blake said, “This is a great learning experience for students to hone their public speaking skills and have the potential of winning cash.”

The competition will be at 9:30 Saturday morning, March 8, 2014 at the Murfreesboro Boys and Girls Club, 820 Jones Boulevard. It is open to any student who is in the 9th through 12th grades on the day of the competition. They can attend public or private schools or be a home school student. There is no fee for participating.

First place winner receives $100 cash, second gets $75 and the third place finisher walks away with $50 cash.  Murfreesboro Rotary’s first place recipient has the opportunity to compete at the district level in April for a $1,000 scholarship.

Blake noted that the only student not eligible would be first place winners from previous years. He also stressed that the talk must be at least 4-minutes, but no longer than 6-minutes and that Rotary’s “4 -Way Test” must strongly tie to the topic of your choice.

Don’t let this opportunity slip away. Right now, contact Rotarian Blake and let him know you wish to be a part of the “4-Way Test” speech competition on March 8th.  Blake can be reached at the Murfreesboro Boys and Girls Club,  phone 615-890-2582, or e-mail him at derek.blake@bgcrc.net.
