Members of the Murfreesboro YMCA were shocked when they received an e-mail late Thursday (7/2/2015) notifying that the 205 North Thompson Lane facility would close August 7th.

That notice informed members that they would be able to use any of the 15 other Y's in the area through August 31st, and at that time they would have the opportunity to transfer membership to another location or end it.

Reportedly, YMCA officials made the decision to close the Murfreesboro facility and sell the property after studying its health over the past several months.

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee has been facing financial challenges and is attempting to correct the problem. The non-profit's 2013 filings with the IRS showed an $8.6-million loss.

The North Rutherford YMCA at 2001 Motlow College Boulevard in Smyrna reportedly will remain open, however the Thompson Lane facility in Murfreesboro will close next month and the complex will be placed on the market for sale.
