The event was originally scheduled to be held in the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. However, the government shut-down forced the sold-out event to move across town to the Hope Hotel and Richard Holbrooke Conference Center.

Gibson is active helping area youth to learn more about flying and is often seen talking to groups of youngsters at the Murfreesboro Airport.

He is married to Murfreesboro's Dr. Rhea Seddon, also a NASA astronaut. The couple has four children.
