Saturday is when you "let your fingers do more walk'n, or you won't be talk'n." Yep, February 28th is the date you must dial the telephone area code every time you make a call, even if it's to your next door neighbor.

With the explosive population growth, there are not enough phone numbers to go around. That's why area code 629 has been added. In fact, the new area code will cover the same geographic area that 615 is presently serving.

For those with 615 area code numbers, you will keep it your current phone number as well as the 615 area code. The new 629 area code only goes to persons needing new phone service or making a change.

New telephone service with the 629 area code will not be issued until March 28, 2015. The Tennessee Regulatory Authority, the government entity that controls telecommunications in this state, is requiring everyone to dial the area code for local calls starting Saturday (2/28/2015). That gives everyone a month to get used to dialing the area code, before new 629 area code numbers are issued.

Starting this Saturday, whether you're calling your neighbor next door, or someone in Nashville, Franklin, Springfield, Gallatin--or anyone in the current 615 area code...you must include the area code when dialing. AT&T warns, if you don't--the call won't go through.
