From 5:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening (8/5/2014), National Night Out Against Crime brought neighbors together. Events were held all over Murfreesboro as well as in La Vergne.

Murfreesboro reported large turnouts at Franklin Heights, Oakland Park, Patterson Park, Rogers Parks, SportsCom, and Spring Valley.

In La Vergne the fun location was the Veteran's Memorial Park.

"National Night Out is a great way to meet law enforcement officers, firefighters, and other public safety personnel," said La Vergne's Community Liaison Officer Sheree Robertson. "It's a fun evening and a good opportunity to gather information about staying safe in your neighborhood."

National Night Out is designed to encourage the entire community to partnership with local law enforcement officers to reduce crime in their neighborhoods and work places. The night will target crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation in all anti-crime efforts, and strengthen the cooperation between police and citizens. The event sends a loud and clear message to criminals they are not welcome in the City of Murfreesboro.

National Night Out" was created in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch in both the U.S. and Canada. The event is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch, and other anti-crime efforts. CrimeStoppers got the ones here started a year after the inaugural event.
