The Heritage Center of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County has a new publication looking at Murfreesboro's past, focusing on the areas of education, public health, and transportation. The guide is designed to accompany the Heritage Center's exhibits about Murfreesboro.

The booklet, "The Hub of a Wheel: A Brief Guide to Murfreesboro's Past," was designed by MTSU Creative and Visual Services and written by graduate research assistant Aleia Brown and Center for Historic Preservation director Dr. Carroll Van West.

Following an introductory overview to the town's history, "The Hub of a Wheel," examines three constant themes of our past: education, commitment to public health, and the impact transportation has had on the county. Historic photographs accompany each section, and the booklet examines the ways in which these themes have shaped our history.

"This booklet provides a great overview of our history and the valuable contributions we have made in the areas of public health and education," said Leigh Ann Gardner, Interpretive Specialist for the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area. "It is a fantastic addition to our exhibits on Murfreesboro's past," said Gardner.

"The Hub of a Wheel" is free and available at the Heritage Center. The Heritage Center of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County is open Monday through Friday from 10 am to 3 pm.
