Bedford County schools have a new superintendent after a contract was broken with a former Rutherford County Schools assistant principal this past year.  You may recall a year ago Dr. Ray Butrum, former assistant principal at Barfield Elementary in Murfreesboro, was hired to lead the Bedford County Schools. According to the Shelbyville Times Gazette,  "Dr. Ray Butrum requested an administrative leave in mid-October, and the Bedford County Board of Education met on Nov. 1 to modify Butrum's contract to remove him as school superintendent." Immediately after that, a search began for a new superintendent.

Don Embry, former Riverdale graduate, was elected this week to head the school system in nearby Shelbyville. He was selected by a 5-2 vote during a specially called meeting. Embry, principal of Shelbyville High School, will transition into the position in the next several weeks and officially start on April 1.
