The Murfreesboro Police Department Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) is currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred Friday morning at 6:49 a.m. on N.W. Broad Street near Singer Road.

After a preliminary investigation, investigators believe a Ford truck and a white “Oldsmobile type car” were traveling toward Smyrna on N.W. Broad Street. Witnesses stated it appeared they were engaged in road rage and were driving erratically. After swerving to avoid the white car, the Ford truck veered off the road, crossed into oncoming traffic and rolled multiple times. The driver, James Smithey Jr. was ejected and died at the scene. Smithey was a 55-year old Murfreesboro resident who lived on Sherill Blvd. Three passengers were transported to Middle Tennessee Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The white “Oldsmobile type car” left the scene and was spotted driving into Nissan Gate 12 in Smyrna.
